FISH FOR CONSERVATION IN COSTA RICA!
Join The Billfish Foundation and The Presidential Challenge to support billfish conservation in Costa Rica and throughout the sportfishing world.
The tournament's host resort, Villas Playa Samara, is located right on the beach in the village of Samara in the Costa Rican province of Guanacaste. A fleet of the finest charter boats in Costa Rica awaits to fish our event, and private boats are welcome to participate in the tournament as well. International flights arrive at the Liberia Airport, just a ninety minute drive from Samara, and commuter flights are available from the Costa Rican capital of San Jose.
Reservation and deposit deadline for The Presidential Challenge Of Costa Rica is FEBRUARY 1, 2013.
The entry fee is $2,900 per team of three anglers and an additional $500 for a fourth angler, and includes ground transfers, cocktail parties, gala awards dinner, t-shirts and captain's bag and more. There is also an extra $300 observer fee which is used to offset the travel and lodging cost for tournament observers.
Villas Playas Samara is located on a four-mile bay near the village of Samara. There are 57 fully equipped and air conditioned villas offering you a choice of one, two or three bedrooms. Each villa has a living room, dining room, kitchen and spacious bedrooms. Villa pricing is on a per person basis and reservations are handled through the tournament staff.
This region is widely recognized as having some of the best sportfishing in Costa Rica, especially for marlin. During the spring season, blue, striped and even black marlin are found in these waters alongside vast schools of Pacific sailfish. Grand Slams are not uncommon. There are a wide variety of activities should you choose to bring your family, from horseback riding and surfing to zip lining, rainforest tours and ATV rentals.
Important Information for Anglers, Captains and Owners!
Momoi 20-pound test line in high-vis yellow is required for this year's tournament (NOT the IGFA-rated line, just regular Momoi Diamond). Anglers are responsible for supplying their own line and tournament staff members will be checking teams for compliance.
There will be a fuel truck available on the 28th and also on March 2nd. Please notify the tournament staff of your fuel needs. There's a $25 delivery charge if you need fuel on another day.
Non-offset circle hooks are also mandatory, with the Eagle Claw Trokar the preferred hook of the event. Impartial observers will be supplied by the tournament and rotated aboard all tournament vessels to ensure a level playing field, and there will be an optional jackpot run by The Billfish Foundation for anyone wishing to enter.
